About

It is perhaps inevitable that the new generation of musicians, born and bred on hip-hop and dance production react to the musical challenges laid down by DJ culture. With the easy virtuosity that is the hallmark of musical greatness, Brother Luke rises to the challenge, mining soul, classical, jazz, hip-hop, & electronica to create a fiercely original, modern and assessable musical melange. Brother Luke embraces and redefines musical genres only as live musicians can: as reference points on route to an entirely new sound.

Six years after Luke begged for his his first piano at age 13, he traveled to Las Vegas from the shadows of a small town in Arizona, determined to take his music to the next level. Hungry and desperate, Luke lied about his lack of equipment to land a paying gig with an R&B band. Eventually his deception was exposed, but Luke’s talent and charisma was impressive enough that the bandleader forgave him and even lent him a dilapidated keyboard until he was able to afford his own.

Since then, without the help of managers or labels, Luke has managed to sell over 6,000 copies and 24,000 downloads, traveled 13 countries worldwide and has shared the spotlight with artists Stevie Wonder, Keller Williams, Xavier Rudd, The Eels, Regina Specktor, DJ Shadow and Ernie Halter. Writing, producing and performing 3 albums in 4 years, substantial mainstream and independent radio play, and hundreds of live shows under his belt, Luke is just getting warmed up. 2005 and 2006 proved to be good years when Luke was hand picked from 48,000 submissions as “Best New Artist” two years in a row by Just Plain Folks, the largest independent music awards show in the world. And now, 2008 has proved to be a successful year once again with a full fledged West Coast Tour and the release of “The Sound Of One” under the Soron Music Group. - Ruby Solution, City Life Magazine
